Abstrak

Penelitian ini mempelajari keefektifan teknik Story Completion dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris terutama pada siswa kelas delapan sekolah menengah atas di Indonesia. Desain quasi-experimental digunakan dengan melibatkan 60 partisipan yang dibagi menjadi dua kelompok. Pengumpulan data meliputi penilaian berbicara pre-test dan post-test. Hasil yang dianalisis dengan Independent Sample t-test membuktikan bahwa teknik Story Completion memiliki dampak positif yang signifikan terhadap peningkatan kemampuan berbicara siswa dibandingkan dengan metode story telling tradisional. Analisis statistik mengkonfirmasi diterimanya hipotesis alternatif sekaligus menolak hipotesis nol. Selain itu, analisis N-Gain menunjukkan bahwa kelompok eksperimen mencapai skor rata-rata yang lebih tinggi dan secara kuantitatif menunjukkan keterampilan berbicara yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol. Sebagai kesimpulan, penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa teknik Story Completion adalah teknik yang efektif dan menarik untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Temuan ini mendukung penggunaan teknik Story Completion dalam pengajaran keterampilan berbicara.
